Science / project plan

We want to describe and quantify the contribution of the Greenland cod stocks to cod fishing in the inshore area around Nuuk and Sisimiut through a year. Nuuk and Sisimiut is chosen because these two areas are of the most importance for the fisheries in Greenland and because the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources also has other data that can be included in the analyzes. We will use genetic studies, and will simultaneously examine whether otoliths can be used as a cost-effective alternative method. At the same time, it is examined whether any differences can be linked to changes in feed or other biological / physical parameters by examining stomach contents and climatic data. Parallel to the biological studies, local fishermen will be interviewed, and their descriptions of changes in the fisheries will be compared with the other studies.
